World Bank team visited Lao Agriculture Competitiveness project in Vientiane Capital

On September 6, 2022, the World Bank team visited Lao Agriculture Competitiveness project in Vientiane Capital, led by Mrs. Dina Umali-Deininger, the World Bank’s agricultural implementation manager, along with the team. On this occasion, the World Bank team also paid a visit to Mr. Phu Khong Banavong, Deputy Governor of Vientiane, with DG and DDG from technical departments of MAF, Central and provincial project coordination and technical assistants Mr. Phu Khong Bannavong expressed his welcome and appreciation for the work of the World Bank. Vientiane is one of the target provinces that have been implemented under the LACP and it has been seen that there has been progress in many aspects, such as the establishment of 76 production groups, equal to 96%, providing matching grant for 38 groups of seed multiplication and rice production group, improving the irrigation infrastructure completed 6 stations, and providing matching grant one rice miller and signed 43 rice farming contract with 9 rice mills participated. In addition, the project also helps to strengthen the government sector, rice mill production groups in many topics such as group management training, production techniques, agricultural production according to clean agriculture standards, improving maintenance, writing business plans for entrepreneurs, rice coloring techniques to increase efficiency, business administration, market and marketing, gender roles and so on. which saw that the government sector, farmers’ groups, and agricultural business operators have gradually developed and become stronger. On the same occasion, the World Bank team visited the organic vegetable production group in Nontair village, Xaythany district, to listen to the report on organic vegetable production, marketing, the use of joint funds from the project and to see the vegetable production of farmers as well as to discuss the problems and difficulties in production to distribution and  also visited the seed production group and rice production group in the village of Nakung, Xaythany district, to listen to the report on rice production, the use of equipment after receiving matching grant from the project, the capacity building within the group and future plans.
