On 16th July 2020 NAFRI-Rice Research Center and NAFRI-Horticulture Research Center implemented their roles to promote adoption of Good Varieties and Quality Seeds. These centers support activities to promote the adoption of good varieties and quality seeds. Their aims to increase the availability and utilization of improved varieties and high-quality seeds mainly in rice (including at least ones resistant to climate variability such as floods and drought) in the project areas.
NAFRI has its roles to produce of rice and vegetable seed, mainly breeder seed and foundation seed (R1) for distribution and dissemination to further produce registered seed (R2) and certified seeds (R3). To ensure high quality seeds for both rice and vegetable, the seed production system needs to be improved at all level simultaneously from upstream (NAFRI) to downstream (farmer seed production group). It is expected that, productivity and quality of paddy will increase, if farmer using high quality seed (R3) for producing paddy and this future increase quality of white rice.
