The Second Steering Committee meeting for the Lao Agriculture Competitiveness Project was held on 16 February 2021, at Amari Hotel, Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province. The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linkham Duangsavanh Vice Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and co-chaired by: Mr. Somchith Inthamith Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Phoukhong Bannavong Deputy Governor of Vientiane Capital, Mr. Daoheuang Nanthavong Deputy Governor of Vientiane Province and Mr. Bounseng Pathommavong Deputy Governor of Bolikhamxay Province. There were totally 140 participants from the Technical Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce, the Deputy District Governor, the District Office of Agriculture and Forestry, the District Office of Industry and Commerce and the National Project Management Official. The main purpose of this meeting is to summarize the results of the implementation of project activities in the year 2020 and the action plan and budget to implement activities for the year 2021. The meeting also discussed and provided comments on how to assist the implementation of the project to achieve its goals and be the most effective. There were many progress of the project implementation in the past 2 years, especially the group establishment of seed multiplication group and rice production group for rice, vegetable and maize. The investments plan has also been supported for the farmer group and agribusiness and some groups have received grants from the project in the form of agricultural machinery equipment in the year 2020 and will continue to approve the remaining investment plans for other group in the period 2021 to 2022.
